as volunteers in civic and political organizations (63.0%); writing

public business (39.5%); engaging in fund raising (37.2%); addressing
public meetings (28.6%); and personally visiting elected officials
to express a point of view (14.9%).
Preservation readers save and revitalize
historic homes and communities. They upgrade historic properties
for modern living (83.3%); invest in historic commercial and residential
real estate (45.3%); and remodel rooms, floors, plumbing and roofing
(44.9%). They spend an average of $14,100 a year on home improvements.
They travel to historic destinations frequently
(94.7%). They take an average of 5.6 overnight trips a year within
the continental U.S. (89.2%), spending an average of $2,300. The
percentage who spend at least $3,000 or more a year on domestic
travel (27.8%) is nearly 10 times the percentage of U.S. adults
(2.9%). They read Preservation for planning trips to historic
places (82.9%).

Frequency discounts must be contracted in advance. Schedules not
completed will be billed at the earned applicable rate. Discounts
of 15% are available to recognized advertising agencies only.
No agency discounts may be taken on production charges. No cash
discounts are allowed. A 1.5% monthly fee will be applied to accounts
that are 30 days past due. Advertisers submitting materials that
do not meet our mechanical requirements will be billed at cost
for in-house production work. Art materials will be returned only
upon written request; otherwise they will be retained for one
