The railroad depot at Stiles Junction, Wisconsin |
Dear Preservation 911,
The railroad depot at Stiles Junction, Wis., is on its last legs, and I can't stand to drive by it one more time without asking if it can be saved. The depot was built in 1881 and was at the junction of two railways, the north-south Wisconsin-Michigan line and the east-west Lakeshore and Western route, that served the area's logging industry. It is listed on the Wisconsin Historic Register, and there is some information on the town of Stiles Junction, formerly called Leightown, at www.rootsweb.com/~wioconto/. It is located in southern Oconto County, south of Route 22 off Route 141, not far from Green Bay.
Anyone willing to restore this piece of logging history?
Sincerely,
Wendy Kendrick

Preservation 911 is a message
board open to all readers. While National Trust staff will respond
to the extent feasible, this will not be possible in all cases.
We encourage other readers involved in state or local preservation
to respond with advice or assistance. To contact either a regional
office of the National Trust, a statewide or local nonprofit organization,
or your state's historic preservation office, click

The National Trust's regional
and field offices bring the programs and tools of the Trust
to communities across the country. They offer technical assistance
through consultations and field visits and financial help through
small grants. They hold educational programs for professional
preservationists and work to foster policies that help historic
places. They also provide leadership on issues that concern entire
regions, such as saving historic schools, fighting sprawl, and
revitalizing cities.
