"St. Jean Baptiste Church in the West
End of Lynn, Mass., is to be leveled for a housing development"
|
Dear Preservation 911,
The Indian Hills, the last Super-Cinerama theatre in existence
in the world, is about to be torn down for a parking lot.
It's in Omaha, Neb., and we need everyone's support. It's
the last of its kind and for it to be razed for parking
is a crime against the arts and history.
In April Methodist Health Systems bought the 40-year-old
theater. They plan to demolish it as soon as next week.
Call Stephen Long, CEO of Methodist Health Systems, and
tell him you want the theatre to be preserved. His number
is 402-354-4000.
Also, e-mail the Omaha
World Herald Public Pulse stating you want it open. Letters
must include the writer's first and last names and full street
(postal) address; addresses are not published. Telephone numbers
are appreciated.
Sincerely,
Marta Dawes
Omaha, Neb.

Preservation 911 is a message board open to all
readers. While National Trust staff will respond to the extent
feasible, this will not be possible in all cases. We encourage
other readers involved in state or local preservation to respond
with advice or assistance. To contact either a regional office
of the National Trust, a statewide or local nonprofit organization,
or your state's historic preservation office, click
here for a state-by-state list.
The National Trust's regional
and field offices bring the programs and tools of the Trust
to communities across the country. They offer technical assistance
through consultations and field visits and financial help through
small grants. They hold educational programs for professional
preservationists and work to foster policies that help historic
places. They also provide leadership on issues that concern entire
regions, such as saving historic schools, fighting sprawl, and
revitalizing cities.
