This upstate New York rectory must be moved or it will be demolished. (Mary Lowery)
|
Dear Preservation 911,
I am writing on behalf of my church in Bolivar, N.Y., about
90 miles southwest of Rochester and Buffalo, just a few
miles north of the Pennsylvania border. Our rectory, which
is the minister's house, has beautiful woodwork and trim,
four bedrooms, two baths, a full attic, porches, balcony,
and two fabulous fireplaces. It is old and unoccupied, and
the church building committee has decided that it is too
expensive to get the house up to code to rent it out.
So the building is going to be demolished, no matter how
much some of us hate the idea. We hope it can be moved and
lived in instead.
I am looking for someone to either move the house
or to purchase the woodwork or fixtures. If the house is moved,
the church would like the site filled in and seeded with new grass.
Please check out the pictures
I have online and let me know if you are interested, or if you
could recommend someone else.
Thank you,
Mary Lowery,
Bolivar, N.Y.

Preservation 911 is a message board open to all
readers. While National Trust staff will respond to the extent
feasible, this will not be possible in all cases. We encourage
other readers involved in state or local preservation to respond
with advice or assistance. To contact either a regional office

The National Trust's regional
and field offices bring the programs and tools of the Trust
to communities across the country. They offer technical assistance
through consultations and field visits and financial help through
small grants. They hold educational programs for professional
preservationists and work to foster policies that help historic
places. They also provide leadership on issues that concern entire
regions, such as saving historic schools, fighting sprawl, and
revitalizing cities.
