Irvington, N.J., bus depot (Radin Consulting

Dear Preservation 911,
I am trying to find a "taker" for a unique and well
preserved little building.
Constructed c. 1949, its streamline style suggests
the speed and modernity of suburban bus travel that it has long
facilitated. Free of graffiti and in very good condition, the
building would adapt to use as a recreation building, cafe, store,
or a transportation-related station.
The exterior is made of cast-concrete panels which
resemble limestone and gray granite. The windows and doors are
not original. Located in Irvington, N.J., this one-room pavilion
is simply too small to serve its community. New Jersey Transit,
the owner, plans to replace it with a larger facility. Due to
its construction methods, it may be disassembled.
The building is available, free of charge, to any
party wishing to remove and reuse it. Any reasonable proposal
will be considered, but time is of the essence!
Sincerely,
Glen Leiner

Preservation 911 is a message board open to all
readers. While National Trust staff will respond to the extent
feasible, this will not be possible in all cases. We encourage
other readers involved in state or local preservation to respond
with advice or assistance. To contact either a regional office
of the National Trust, a statewide or local nonprofit organization,
or your state's historic preservation office, click

The National Trust's regional
and field offices bring the programs and tools of the Trust
to communities across the country. They offer technical assistance
through consultations and field visits and financial help through
small grants. They hold educational programs for professional
preservationists and work to foster policies that help historic
places. They also provide leadership on issues that concern entire
regions, such as saving historic schools, fighting sprawl, and
revitalizing cities.
