The Mohawk (Steve Lindsey)

Dear Preservation 911,

The USCGC Mohawk (WPG-78) protected convoys of freighters and troopships from Hitler's U-boats. Now it languishes at the Staten Island pier in New York.

Two attempts to use the 165 foot long ship as a museum have been unsuccessful, and now the owner of the pier, Anthony Rondinone, is seeking payment of back dockage fees.

Mr. Rondinone, of the Caribbean Transport Line, says he wants the Mohawk removed from his property within 30 days because he is moving his operation to another pier. Unless an organized effort buys the former warship soon, he will let it go for scrap.
