1963 Fleischmann Planetarium, Reno, Nev.: manta-ray-shaped building in way of university parking garage

211 Pearl St., Manhattan: built in 1831-32 by founder of Colgate-Palmolive, retains Greek revival commercial features, scheduled to be replaced by apartment complex

Three blocks of Upper Hill, New Haven, Conn.: located in low-income, National Register historic district, to be cleared for new school

LOST
1928 San Mateo High School, San Mateo, Calif.: demolished minutes after judge sided with school district in 19-month battle with citizens trying to save town's only surviving major pre-World War II public building

1728 Resurrection Manor, St. Mary's County, Md.: torn down by new owner after National Historic Landmark farmhouse had deteriorated for years

SAVED
Murphy Farm, Harpers Ferry, W.Va.: site of John Brown fort, Civil War battle, and 1906 civil rights pilgrimage, spared development by Trust for Public Land's purchase and planned transfer to National Park Service

18th-c. Wilton, Middlesex Co., Va.: bought by Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities from hard-bargaining owner who parked bulldozer beside colonial mansion during negotiations

RESTORED
1917 St. Paul Central Library, Minn.: updated for contemporary use and returned to original Beaux-Arts splendor financed in part by robber baron James J. Hill

1913 Webb House, Colleyville, Tex.: built for local railroad foreman, fiddle player, and unofficial mayor, fixed up and opened as house museum
